Colin Crouch diagnostizierte mit seinem Werk „Postdemokratie“ verschiedenartige Mängel der Demokratie. Die Bandbreite der Verfehlungen westlicher Systeme wurde dabei nahezu erschöpfend über das gesamte Arbeitsfeld der politischen Institutionen ausgeweitet und somit auch die politischen Parteien nicht verschont. Letzteren wirft Crouch im Rahmen des von ihm beschriebenen Prozesses Entwicklungen vor, die nicht im Interesse der Gesellschaft sein können. Es sind eben diese Entwicklungen, die ich in der folgenden Arbeit rekonstruieren möchte und schließlich mit der Zusammensetzung politischer Führungskräfte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland als Kontrastfolie auf ihre Plausibilität hin prüfen möchte. Im Zentrum dieser Erörterung steht wesentlich die Frage ob die Diagnosen von Colin Crouch auf die Bundesrepublik anwendbar sind. Im Rahmen dieser Ausarbeitung kann freilich keine umfangreiche Forschung betrieben werden. Dennoch möchte ich Argumente liefern die eine Beurteilung der Lage meinerseits ermöglichen.
Zunächst möchte ich die zentralen Thesen aus Crouchs Werk wiedergeben, um daraufhin speziell die auf die Lage der Parteien im Rahmen von „Postdemokratie“ einzugehen.

Die Aktualität seiner Theorien bestätigt ein Blick in die Presselandschaft, in der seit dem Beginn der Finanzkrise nahezu täglich die Forderung nach größerer Staatsmacht gestellt und der Wirtschaftsliberalismus kritisiert wird.
Für Schmitt setzt dieser „Begriff des Staates […] den Begriff des Politischen voraus“ und damit nicht eine basic Autorität in ökonomischen Fragen, sondern in keeping with se die Unterscheidung zwischen Freund und Feind, die alles Politische prägt.

Bush im „Krieg gegen den Terror“ auf Denkmuster aus Carl Schmitts „Begriff des Politischen“ zu untersuchen. Durch diese Nebeneinanderstellungen soll keinesfalls eine Gleichstellung politischer rationale versucht werden, auch wenn in der Argumentation Jennifer Van Bergen zitiert wird, die die united states unter Bush „on the line to fascism“ sieht. Vielmehr verdeutlicht dies das challenge, zu einem noch immer sehr aktuellen und emotionalen Thema objektive Sekundärliteratur zu wählen. Daher wurden die Angaben von fünf politisch unterschiedlichen Autoren zu diesem Themengebiet abgeglichen.
Auf dieser Grundlage sollen bestehende und vergangene ideologische Muster sachlich und ohne die von Schmitt geschätzte Polemik untersucht werden, um zu erkennen, ob das Freund-Feind-Denken noch heute als eine Gefahr für die bürgerliche Freiheit oder sogar als Vorbote des Endes der Demokratie betrachtet werden kann.
